In memory of Leonid Kadenyuk

On January 31, 2018, the first cosmonaut of independent Ukraine, Hero of Ukraine Leonid Kostyantynovich Kadenyuk, passed away.

From November 19 to December 5, 1997, the first cosmonaut of Ukraine, Leonid Kadenyuk, flew into space (STS-87 mission). For the first time, the national emblem of Ukraine, the Ukrainian flag, and the anthem of independent Ukraine were flown into space. Leonid Kadenyuk made his flight 36 years after Yuri Gagarin's flight. The flight duration was 15 days 16 hours 34 minutes 04 seconds.
